A guide to keeping your business safe
It's our goal at United Bank to provide you with the resources to help your business succeed. With so many different threats out there, it's critical to educate yourself on how to stay protected. Click through this guide to learn some simple tips that will help you keep your business information secure.
Avoid Credit Card Fraud
- Keep an updated list of which employees have company credit, debit or ATM cards, along with their account numbers, expiration dates, and limits.
- Keep card fraud department phone numbers handy.
- Cancel and destroy any unused cards.
- Make sure employees sign company cards immediately upon receipt.
- Keep track of card receipts. Ask that they be submitted for any expense reimbursements.
- Review credit card and bank account statements for unexplained charges.
- Shield the keypad when entering your card PIN.
- Remind employees to never give their ATM PIN, credit card PIN, or account numbers to anyone they don't know, either on the telephone or online.
- Order a copy of your firm's credit report at least annually and look for unauthorized applications, unfamiliar credit accounts, credit inquiries, defaults and any delinquencies that you were unaware of.
Preventing Phone Fraud
Many thieves use the telephone to commit fraud. These criminals are looking for unsuspecting individuals who will give them important information, like Social Security numbers, dates of birth, credit card numbers, or bank account numbers. Once they have critical company information, they use it to make fraudulent purchases, obtain credit, or to access bank accounts.
Remind employees of the following tips to help prevent phone fraud:
- Instruct employees to avoid giving confidential company information to anyone outside of the business.
- Never give company account numbers or credit information to anyone you don't know.
- Remember that United Bank will NEVER call you or an employee who is not authorized to access your company account and ask for account or personal information.
- Instruct employees to forward any strange calls requesting company information to management immediately.
Prevent Fraud in Business Relationships
Consider the following pointers when conducting your company's business or making business-to-business purchases:
- Choose to do business with companies you know are reputable, particularly when shopping online.
- When you fill out a loan or credit application, be sure that the business either shreds these applications or stores them in locked files.
- Ask businesses what their privacy policies are and how they will use your information.
- Keep a list of all your credit cards and bank accounts, along with their account numbers, expiration dates, and credit limits, as well as their respective fraud department phone numbers in a safe secure place.
- Instruct employees that all company business dealings are confidential, and consider (with legal counsel) asking each employee to sign a confidentiality statement as a condition of employment.
Online Banking Security
Here are key ways that United Bank helps to safeguard your information when you bank online:
- 128-Bit Encryption: When you access your accounts and perform transactions within Online Banking, your information is protected by 128-bit encryption.
- Security Token Authentication: If you are a business customer who performs high risk transactions, we use the highest level of authentication available through the use of tokens to confirm your identity.
- Multifactor Authentication: If you are a business using our consumer online banking, we use a Multifactor Authentication program that uses your login in conjunction with a PC imprint to confirm your identity.
- Additional Authentication: When you perform sensitive online banking transactions, such as money transfers, we will ask you to use a secured token PIN to verify your identity.
- Secure Firewalls: The computer servers that run our Online Banking sites are protected by numerous firewalls to help prevent unauthorized access to our network. These firewalls are monitored 24/7 to prevent security breaches.
- Session Timeouts: If you're signed on and not using your Online Banking for several minutes, your session will "time out." To resume your banking activity, you'll need to re-enter your User ID and Password.
- Account Masking: All of your accounts are masked (XXXX1234), so anyone shoulder surfing can't identify your account numbers.
- IP Intelligence Systems: Sometimes called anomaly detection. United Bank monitors each and every login by comparing registered PCs, IP addresses, browser versions, city, state, country and several other factors to build a profile of each customer. Login exceptions that do not match existing profiles are reviewed by United Bank staff.
